After successfully passing the training program, the trainee should:
- explain the basic concept of dual-fuel marine propulsion and the operational reasons for using LNG/gas fuel on board ships;
- describe the principal properties and hazards of natural gas, methane and LNG relevant to shipboard operation;
- identify the principal ME-GI gas-system components, including gas block, gas injection valve, window valve, purge valve, blow-off valve and sealing-oil-related arrangements;
- explain the function of FGSS, LNG storage tank, vaporizer, gas compressor/high-pressure supply arrangement and Gas Valve Unit/Gas Valve Train;
- describe diesel mode, gas mode, gas start, gas stop, gas shutdown and fuel-mode changeover;
- explain the basic architecture of ME-DF-ECS, including ECU/CCU, SPCU/SACU, SPSU/SCSU, MPC/Triton and DASU units at familiarization level;
- apply safe working principles around high-pressure gas, cryogenic fuel, double-wall piping, ventilation ducts and gas-detection systems;
- interpret selected ME-GI gas-channel alarms and identify probable operational or component-related causes at a basic troubleshooting level;
- respond correctly to gas detector alarms, suspected gas leakage, abnormal combustion indications, gas trip and emergency shutdown scenarios;
- demonstrate component-identification skills using simplified ME-GI and FGSS diagrams;
- demonstrate a safety-oriented professional attitude during case studies, checklist exercises and oral/practical assessment.
Entry Standards for admission to the training course are:
- Certificate of Competency, Education Certificate or Certificate of Proficiency, according with the requirement of the specific field as defined by international or national regulations; recommended technical background: basic marine diesel engines, engine-room watchkeeping, alarms, fuel systems and safety procedures.
- Seamen’s book or Civil passport or ID.
